Jan Weiner Was a Vibrant, Tireless Volunteer

By Neil Earle

Jan Weiner 1947-2019

In 1996 I was sent to pastor a church in California that had had four pastors in three years in a troubled time. Thank God Jan was leading their Women's Ministry at that time for her energetic Midwestern competence was just what we needed to rebuild and begin to host hundreds of people from all over Southern California for MLK Days, anniversaries, weddings, funerals, candlelight services, etc.

I prayed and anointed her when she was first diagnosed with cancer and she began her determined and exemplary 22 year fight against this killer. What a lady! The last contact was just this October when she was reflecting on the cancer walk she had just raised funds for. Scott tells me she actually hosted Thanksgiving just a matter of days before we lost her.

Vibrant, positive, uncomplaining, she thoroughly enjoyed her job as events coordinator at Cal Poly where she rubbed elbows with Paul Anka and others. The Bible says of those who pass on that their works follow after them and Jan has little to worry about on that score. We will really miss her!
