Marvin Loumont Lindsey

Born in Tacoma, Washington

Marvin volunteered for service in the United States Marine Corp in 1944. Upon completion of basic training, he was immediately assigned to combat service in the Western Pacific Theater. While serving in the Battle of Okinawa with the 3rd Battalion 4th Marines, Marvin came under enemy fire while attempting to save a fellow Marine who had been ambushed. As a result of his bravery, he was wounded by enemy fire and awarded the Purple Heart medal at the age of 18. He was later honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1947.

Marvin was recalled to active duty in 1950 to participate in combat operations against enemy forces in South and Central Korea with the 1st Marine Division. He was present at The Battle of the Chosin Reservoir from November 26 – December 11, 1950. He was later honorably discharged again from the United States Marine Corps in 1951.

Marvin came into the Worldwide Church of God in 1955 and was called to work at Ambassador College in Pasadena, California in 1956. He worked with the college and church from 1956 through 1994. His last 8 years were the most gratifying with Ambassador College and the Y.O.U. programs at Camp River Glen in the Big Bear Mountains. Marvin eventually retired from there to live in Big Bear with his wife, Ruth, of 40 years and his son Michael.

He is survived by his loving wife Ruth, his daughter Tina (Gordon) and her husband Al, his son Michael and his wife Christina, and three grandchildren: Jonathan (18), Jesselyn (16) and Maverick (1).
