God and the Grammys

Everyone is by now familiar with sports heroes and entertainers who gush about God or Jesus after beating out (and sometimes beating up!) the competition. This practice sometimes leaves people out in the cold but Sunday night's 54th Grammys on February 12 – the most watched since 1984 – had its own surprising and tasteful spiritual moment.

Renowned rapper and host LL Cool J pulled a slip of paper out of his pocket and read a prayer for recently deceased Whitney Houston that began simply "Heaveny Father."

Even the New York Post saluted the gesture and it was ironic for any Christians watching to see how some in the audience were caught by surpirse while many others bowed their head in respect.

It was a unique moment and one that proved, in the words of one pastor, "God can show up anywhere."
