The Book of Kells

Around 800 AD, monks fleeing Viking Raids apparently brought these lavish manuscripts to Ireland for safe-keeping. This Matthew 1 illustration from the Book of Kells (a town in Ireland) is now in Trinity College, Dublin.

Anonymous master-illuminators spent a lifetime so illiterate peasants could get an idea of the Gospel. Undercover, their work lives on especially on St. Patrick's Day.
