‘Amigos Sin Fronteras’

By Janet Shay

The words mean “friends without borders” and for many years now former Glendora GCI attendees Raul and Paulina Sifuentes have been serving in this medical-evangelical relief mission to the poorest of the poor in the hills of Mexico. Mr. Sifuentes reported to our congregation on September 26 about their latest venture.

Este video, en espaņol, muestra la ASF en el trabajo.

The Amigos are backed by 27 churches in the United States and Mexico (including ours). They take medical, dental, and vision services along with food and clothing to some of the poorest in Mexico, people governments and charitable groups usually overlook.

The pictures speak for themselves. Mr. Sifuentes told us that the lineups for food and clothing and medical assistance starts at 2AM in the morning. “Not just the poor participate. People come to our stations because medicine is so expensive,” said Raul.

Some religious groups persecute the team because there is so little knowledge of God and what Jesus was all about in the hill country. Mr. Sifuentes mentioned that they had been praying 18 years for a large sturdy truck and this year it arrived. “A miracle” he told us.

Every year is different. This year for the kids they had mimics and mimes who shared a gospel message. The 5 doctors, 6 dentists, 3 optometrists were joined by 40 others in this mission of mercy to the poorest of the poor.

The motto is “Not only to do but do it with love.” Once again they distributed glasses, checked for diabetes and blood pressure, treated hundreds of patients and converted hundreds more to live for Jesus Christ.

The need is always great and the Sifuentes thank Glendora church for its financial support but especially for their prayers. Both we are only too happy to provide. “Blessed are the poor” Jesus taught and we dare not escape this call to mission.
