Dovon Nee Spurgeon

Dovon Nee Spurgeon was the second child of ten children born to Jackie and Dosha Mae Spurgeon. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on June 20, 1957. She had attended the Worldwide Church of God/Grace Communion International (GCI) with her family since 1958.

Dovon loved attending Glendora New Covenant Fellowship (a GCI congregation), where she had many friends. She was baptized in April 2009 by her pastor, Neil Earle. That turned out to be quite an adventure!

As many people know, Dovon and her Dad were inseparable. Wherever Jackie Spurgeon went, Dovon went. She even went to work with him at Ambassador College. Some thought she was on the payroll, but she wasn’t. Under her Dad’s guidance and direction, Dovon developed a great work ethic. She was very clean and tidy. Dovon wanted things so clean that she would scrub the Teflon right off your pots! No kidding! We have the pots to prove it!

Dovon also loved to work and have her own money, and because she was a member of the Regional Center, she was able to do just that. She had three programs to choose from and chose the Pomona Valley Workshop. She worked there from 2010 to May 2014.

Dovon also loved spending time with her oldest brother Jackie and his wife Ethel. They were very close. Her favorite pastimes were watching Disney movies, word and picture puzzles and printing Scripture. And if you visit her table, you’ll see she was our family scribe. She had perfect handwriting.

Christ said in Matthew 18:3, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the Kingdom of Heaven.” Dovon had much of the character of a little child. She did not desire authority; she did not regard outward distinctions; she was teachable and was willingly dependent upon others.

Dovon was preceded in death by her parents, Jackie Reemes Spurgeon and Dosha Mae Spurgeon, and her brother, Christopher Allen Spurgeon. She is survived by her siblings, Jackie and his wife Ethel, Brian and his wife Sian, Tim and his wife Rachel, Phyllis and her husband Ron, Rhona and her husband Donnie, Marlon and his wife Anne, Aaron and his wife Lydia, and Ellen. Dovon was particularly proud of all of her nieces and nephews. Every time one of her sisters or sisters-in-law was pregnant, she would say, “That’s my nephew!” or “That’s my niece!”
