The Mission Continues
Kalengule Kaoma, a native of Zambia, is National
Director for Zambia and GCI Missions Director for much of Africa.
Almost 2000 years ago the Master gave the command – "Go into all the world...to
the uttermost parts of the earth" (Matthew 28:19; Acts 1:8-10). And almost 2000
years later our church, Grace Communion International, is deeply grateful to be
sharing in Christ's command with other fellowships.
"Our God is a missionary God,"
John Stott told a group of us in the Inland Empire in 2006, and at the latest GCI
Conference in Orlando last week we found out how our merciful Lord – who was
himself sent from the bosom of the Father (John 1:18) – is reaching out around
this big wide world.
Eugene Guzon is the National Director of Grace
Communion International in the Philippines and Missions Director for northern Asia
and Micronesia.
- The Philippines still booming along. There are 8893 attending there now with
GCI and some professionals working abroad are sharing faith, including in North Korea,
Dubai and Thailand. Eight have been converted thru one man's witness in China.
- In South Africa "the church under a tree" is now in a tent with 80 people attending.
They sent 12, then 20 then 44 to SEP South Africa. SEP is emerging as a Discipling
tool for our fellowship – steadying young people in their walk with God and
calling them to be future leaders.
- Mozambique – 96 congregations with 5000 members, many many children. In
2010 they requested to join us through GCI South Africa – like the seed growing
we know not how (Mark 4).
- Namibia, another group has approached us for full membership – 6 congregations
with 269 members.
- Tim McGraw from South Africa did 16 baptisms in a river prone to crocodiles.
An older woman watching on the bank asked to be baptized. Some walk three miles
on crutches to get to church accompanied by a blind lady.
- In Liberia after a bloody civil war Kalengula Kaoma, our man in Black Africa,
sponsored a Bible Study for widows and 1000 women showed up. They offer widow support
in West Kenya and Angola. Church in Zimbabwe weathered the threat of starvation
thanks to support from the United States.
- Pastor Eugene with 5 churches in Burundi asked to join us – still processing
their application but he's already changed name to GCI.!! Our web site works wonders.
- Trinidad and Tobago women prayed about how to serve their community. They linked
up with Prison Fellowship and see 6 women in Delinquency Hall every Tuesday. At St
Judes Home for Girls they work with 75 females. The government asked our pastor
to sit on the Community Action Council.
- In Munich, Germany two people met out walking their dogs – they had mutual
friends in North America – now 11 in a house church.
- Croatian couple are asking us for material on how to build a church. Seminary
in Nepal asks for our literature as curriculum.
- Colombia radio program sponsored by California churches gets new phone calls
every day. Prison ministry in Honduras.
- An Arabic web site is being planned by 3 newly baptized folks in Northwest Africa.
And there is soooo much more!!! See you next time.
