Mission to Mexico…Continued

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds he had compassion on them because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matthew 9:35-36).

What a template for the work Mr. Raul Sifuentes is doing as part of a group of missionaries and medical volunteers named “Amigos Sin Fronteras.” For a decade now Raul Sifuentes, a former member of the Glendora congregation living in Texas, has been part of this medical mission that has permission to work all over Mexico, any time any place. These zealous missionaries are limited only by the funds and resources they can bring to bear.

On his last trip to the impoverished hill country of Mexico, Amigos performed 391 dental check-ups and surgeries and checked 151 people for eyes conditions and fitting for glasses. Diabetic medicines were distributed as well as hundreds and hundreds of Bibles. Of about 300 people who sat in on the evangelism and marriage counseling classes some 278 accepted Jesus as their personal Savior.

That was just one team. There are now four teams fanning out across Mexico, Guatemala, and South America.

Mr. Sifuentes was greatly encouraged by the way the marriage counseling classes seem to bear fruit. He would see women walking ten paces behind their husbands on the first visit and then when they learned about the freedom in Christ – human beings male and female made in God’s image – they would as often as not walk to the preaching services hand in hand.

Great work has been done in spite of cultural and language problems. One language group speaks 30+ dialects. Yet in spite of that, resourceful translators are able to learn such Christian standards as “Lord I lift your name on high,” and play them via guitar for the camp meetings.

A great work is being done by this dedicated group and though the need is great for financial resources to purchase food, blankets and medicines, Mr. Sifuentes is convinced that prayer is the thing that is needed most of all.
